Who we are
Fashion Without Cruelty (Fashion Without Cruelty Ltd) is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
- Contact: hello@fashionwithoutcruelty.co.uk
What we collect, and why
We collect as little as we can get away with. There is no account system, no login, and no profile built about you.
Newsletter subscribers
Your email address, and the date you subscribed. We use it to send the newsletter you asked for: new ratings, newly verified brands, and the pieces worth knowing about.
Lawful basis: consent. You gave it by submitting the form, and you can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email, or by emailing us. Withdrawing is as easy as subscribing was.
Community members
Your name, email address, and the interest categories you selected. We use these to send relevant content and to understand what our audience wants rated next.
Lawful basis: consent, as above.
Brand verification applicants
Brand name, contact name, business email, website, a description of the brand, and any certifications claimed. We use this to assess the application against our published standard.
Lawful basis: legitimate interests, assessing and responding to a business enquiry you initiated. We do not add brand contacts to marketing lists.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people find useful: how many visits a page gets, which site referred them, roughly which country they’re in, and what kind of device they used. We do not use it for advertising, we have not enabled advertising features or remarketing, and we do not sell or share this data.
Google Analytics sets cookies (_ga and _ga_<id>) containing a randomly generated identifier, which last up to two years. It does not store your IP address.
These cookies are only set if you accept them. We use Google Consent Mode, which means analytics storage is switched off by default. Until you choose "Accept" on our cookie banner, no analytics cookie is written to your device.
Lawful basis: consent. You can withdraw it at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser, which resets the banner and lets you choose again.
Cookies
We keep this as short as we can. The site uses:
- Your cookie choice, stored in your browser so we don’t ask again on every page. Essential, and never sent to us.
- Google Analytics (
_ga,_ga_<id>), only after you accept, as described above.
We set no advertising cookies and run no advertising pixels. If that changes, we’ll update this page and ask for consent before anything is set.
When you click through to a retailer using one of our affiliate links, that retailer and its affiliate network may set cookies on their own site. That is governed by their privacy policy, not ours. See our affiliate disclosure for how those links work.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We use a small number of processors to run the service:
- Netlify, website hosting and form submission storage.
- Brevo, email list management and newsletter delivery.
- Google (Analytics), website analytics, where you have accepted analytics cookies.
Each is bound by a data processing agreement and may only use your data to provide the service to us. Some processing happens outside the UK. Google Analytics data, for instance, may be processed in the United States. Those transfers rely on UK International Data Transfer Agreements, the UK Extension to the EU to US Data Privacy Framework, or adequacy regulations, together with Google’s own safeguards.
How long we keep it
- Newsletter and community data: until you unsubscribe, plus a short suppression record so we don’t email you again by mistake.
- Inactive subscribers: removed after two years without opening an email.
- Brand applications: three years from the decision, so we have a record of what was assessed and why.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy
- have inaccurate data corrected
- have your data deleted
- restrict or object to how we use it
- receive your data in a portable format
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it
Email hello@fashionwithoutcruelty.co.uk and we’ll respond within one month. There is no charge.
Complaints
If you think we’ve handled your data badly, please tell us first, because we would rather fix it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us their details, email us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your data in a way that affects you, we’ll update the effective date above and tell subscribers by email before the change takes effect.
